An opportunity to reflect…
We find ourselves in unprecedented times, hopefully a unique situation that will never be repeated.
Covid-19 has had such a widespread impact on everyone and everything. Small and big businesses alike find themselves in uncharted waters. Speaking and listening to our retail friends and neighbours in and around Northamptonshire there is nervousness but positivity in almost equal measure.
Here at Moulton Kitchens we belong to a like minded group of independent retailers in Northampton and the various message groups and email chains that we are part of provide valuable emotional and motivational support in such uncertain times. Support such as this leads to reflection. It is a chance to look at our little business and appreciate how far we have come and how much we miss the daily interaction with customers and friends. Things that we all took for granted are now things that we crave the most.
The past few weeks have provided us with the opportunity to plan and explore new ways to engage with our customers. We have conducted ‘virtual’ design visits and worked remotely with existing customers to develop their designs. It is also an opportunity to catch up on administration and planning for our reopening. Our lists have lists!
Most of our team are using the opportunity to take some well-earned but unplanned time away from the business. The furlough scheme has helped us to protect our small but perfectly formed retail team. Our cohort of specialist work partners face challenges of their own and we are doing as much as possible to support them wherever and whenever possible.
Our social media channels have also benefited from our additional free time. We are keen to share past projects and design ideas with our customers and are pleased to have recently launched our new Pinterest page along with several new content channels on Instagram and Facebook. If you are planning your new kitchen then why not create a Pinterest board of design features, colours, and styles that you like. You can even share it with us during the design process.
We continue to plan and are excited about an upcoming summer product launch with some fabulous new colours and design features. We can’t wait to re-open our St. Giles Street showroom so that our customers can come and see the new products and discuss their projects with us in person. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on our re-opening.
Ultimately, as a business we are lucky. We are a ‘nice to have’ not a ‘need to have’ and we don’t find ourselves under the immense, almost unbearable pressure of essential retailers. Their staff are working long hours, at great risk to themselves to ensure that we can all carry on with minimal interruption to our day to day lives as consumers. We are grateful to them all.
Our customers have shown us kindness, patience and understanding. In the first couple of weeks of lockdown the number of supportive messages and emails that our little business received from past, present, and future customers was overwhelming. We extend our thanks to them all.
On a final note, it would be remiss not to dedicate the last few words of this blog post to thanking key workers. As a society we are slowly learning that key workers come from all walks of life and industries and are not limited to the stereotypical ones of old. Thank you to everyone that continues to work so hard at a time of such uncertainty. Special thanks of course to our NHS and other emergency services but also to all those others who are too long to list but deserve our gratitude just as much.
