The
Story
Heritage
Our roots are firmly British and our production facilities remain in the heart of the country.
Henry Burbidge founded his woodworking company H Burbidge & Son at the age of forty in 1867 with capital of 10 shillings.
The main lines of business were warp rolls, bobbins and quills for the local weaving trade, bannisters and newel posts for the building trade, and cricket stumps, croquet mallets and wooden bowls were supplied to the London sports goods trades – notable customers were Slazenger and Jacques.
Burbidge steadily grew, increasing its offer of kitchens to include a wide variety of styles and materials. By the nineties, Burbidge had established itself as a leading UK manufacturer; producing highly sought after and exceptionally well crafted kitchen ranges.
With the fifth generation now at the helm the business continues to prosper in retaining its focus on the development of new and innovative products for the fitted kitchen market, both produced in its own factories and in collaboration with a small number of long term sub-contract partners.
Quality
Traditional methods, meticulous techniques, authentic man hours...Designed for today and built to last for tomorrow.
As a highly experienced manufacturer, we know how to expertly blend the high-tech with the hand-crafted.
Our legacy means we have an intimate knowledge of production methods, whether incorporating intricate beading onto a shaker ash door or hand-spraying your kitchen with a bespoke colour palette that masterly reveals the beauty of our high quality timber. The timber used to craft our kitchens is carefully sourced with strength, sustainability and superior finish in mind.
We can turn to technology when we need to for precision shaping and moulding, but we know when only the hand of a true craftsman can deliver the finish that is required.
Burbidge were awarded the prestigious Manufacturing Guild Mark by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers – a mark of excellence in British furniture making.
By choosing Burbidge, you can rest assured that you are investing in the highest standard of product by a British Manufacturer.
Bespoke
Made for you.
You can be certain that each kitchen that leaves our workshop is made precisely for the very room it will ultimately occupy. Because just as every kitchen is used differently, every kitchen is built differently.
Bespoke is in our blood; as embodied by our early order book's breadth of specialist requirements. And our commitment to investing in the very best production equipment enables us to offer a vast collection of shapes, sizes and finishes - giving you greater scope for flexibility and creativity.
Sustainability
We are committed to producing innovative, premium quality kitchens with due care and respect for our environment.
Our timbers and timber product are sourced from well managed forestry in Europe and North America, where the cycle of clearing and replanting had been continuous for many generations. We only use temperate hard and soft woods and avoid endangered tropical timbers where logging practices are generally less well controlled and regulated.
We have agreed with all our suppliers to only purchase timber products which do not damage the environment.
Our cabinets are constructed from oak veneered plywood - the favoured material of boat builders and cabinet makers alike. Thin layers of sustainably grown solid poplar wood are laminated together to produce the most durable, water resistant strucutral material available.
Kitchen Styles
It is the heart of the home and the hub of family life. Whether it is enjoying breakfast on a sunny morning, relaxing with mid-afternoon tea, or catching up on the days events sharing an evening meal with family and friends, your Kitchen Makers kitchen will create memories that will last a lifetime.
