Why We Love Kitchen Peninsulas!

Why We Love Kitchen Peninsulas!

When picturing your dream kitchen – what do you see?

So many of our lovely customers tend to include kitchen islands in their dream vision, and we completely understand why; they are FABULOUS – however, islands tend to require a very large kitchen space to ensure there is still enough room for you to walk around it – and sometimes this isn’t the case for every home.

This is where we’d like to introduce you to the Peninsula!

What’s the difference between an Island and a Peninsula?

An island is a freestanding piece of cabinetry that is placed in a kitchen to supplement the worktop space.

A peninsula is similar to an island in that it’s a unit with a worktop, but instead of standing free in the middle of your kitchen, one end is attached to the wall/existing cabinetry.

Here are 4 reasons why we love a kitchen peninsula, and think you should too:

1. You don’t need to have a huge kitchen to fit one in

That’s right! Even if you have a smaller available space, you may well be able to fit a peninsula into your room.

2. Multi-functional

Not only can a peninsula provide worktop overhang for breakfast-bar style usage, but you can also carefully select the cabinetry underneath to suit your needs.

Do you love to entertain guests? Perhaps consider adding a wine chiller for handy access when entertaining.

Do you have an adored family pooch? Why not incorporate space for a dog bed.

3. Create a statement feature

There are so many design features that can be incorporated here to make a peninsula a real stand-out area in your kitchen.

Why not opt for a contrast colour panel for under a breakfast bar?

Open shelving also works beautifully on a peninsula – creating style and interest.

4. Zoning

When designing your kitchen, you’ll often hear us talking about ‘Zones’…Peninsulas naturally create a zone for guests to land at when entering your space. They can perch on a bar stool to chat or have a drink whilst also keeping them out of your cooking zone while you prepare for a delicious dinner party… after all you’ll have to host at least a few of these to show off your fabulous new kitchen!

They can also be a great space for children having a snack in a highchair or doing homework, keeping them in sight but out of your zone and under your toes while you’re busy cooking away.
